We have asked an expert panel to make brief presentations and then discuss the issues facing corporations raising funds – both equity and debt – in the current markets. This follows our successful panel discussion last year on the considerable equity raising activity that was occurring at that time.
Andrew Defina of UBS will look at equity-raising, Ron Ross of ANZ Capital Markets will discuss debt and Stephen Halmarick of Colonial First State Global Asset Management will put the issues in an economic context. The brief bios of these experts, all of whom have excellent experience to provide a stimulating session for us, are below.
The talks and discussion will follow a two-course lunch, not a sandwich lunch. Note the early start. Space is limited - bookings will be on a first come, first served basis.

Brief biographies of Andrew Defina (UBS), Ron Ross (ANZ Capital Markets) and
Steve Halmarick (Colonial First State Global Asset Management)
Andrew Defina is Co-Head of Equity Capital Markets Origination at UBS, Australia's leading equity capital markets franchise. Andrew has over 15 years experience in structuring and executing equity capital raisings in Australia, including 14 years experience at UBS.
Ron Ross recently joined ANZ Capital Markets as Head of Bond Origination, Australia. He brings with him 25 years of international bond market experience, having worked in Australia, London and Hong Kong. Ron worked at Merrill Lynch for some 18 years as a Debt Capital Markets specialist. He ran Debt Capital Markets, Asia for BNP Paribas for two years and prior to Merrill’s Ron worked at CIBC and Security Pacific as a derivatives marketer.
Stephen Halmarick has been Head of Investment Markets Research at Colonial First State Global Asset Management (Australia’s largest manager of Australian-sourced funds and a subsidiary of the Commonwealth Bank) since March 2009. Prior to joining Colonial First State, Stephen was a Managing Director and Co-head of economic and market analysis at Citigroup Australia, where he worked for nearly 15 years. He is chairman of the Australian Business Economists.
